CAPTAIN SAYS.....

Every now and then the time it takes to play a round of golf here comes under scrutiny. There may be good reasons for a slow round, but there are also many strategies players can use to ensure they play a round at an optimum speed.

What are these suggestions?

Now that the course has dried out somewhat, everybody needs to be aware of pace of play. It should take just under 4 1/2 hours to play on a stroke day. Other competitions should be faster.

You are not expected to run around and not enjoy your game, but you have to keep up with the group in front of you.

Suggestions:

¨ If it is safe walk directly to your ball and prepare for your shot. You can then play immediately it is your turn.

¨ It is quicker to “putt out”

¨ Leave your buggy on the ‘away side’ of the green.

¨ If you have the honour, mark your card after you have hit off.

¨ If you get behind make the effort to over the next few holes to catch up.

¨ If a lost ball is going to hold up play then call the next group through.

¨ Pick up in stableford when you can no longer score on the hole.

¨ Walk briskly, not stroll.

Letter to Sunshine Coast Golf Zone re pennants 2011:

After looking at various options the club believes the current pennant setup is the best for the zone in all grades, with these suggestions:

¨ A Grade & Juniors play at the same course where possible.

¨ Work the draw back from the finals date so there are no gaps in the draw

¨ Pennants be only for male players

¨ Rules to be stuck by after finalization (prior to start of pennant season.)

¨ One team per club per grade.
